Exciting duel over weekend
By Express Reporter
Simba SC meet archrivals, Young Africans, this Saturday at the National Stadium
in the epic second leg match of Super Eight Stage of Vodacom Premier League.
Young Africans will enter the pitch with bitter memory of 1-2 defeat in the
first leg match; a defeat, which Young Africans fans say opened a series of bad
luck for the team.
After regaining their winning formula in Dodoma, Young Africans won two matches
consecutively to win back the approval of fans in the onging League.
However, the stunning 0-1 defeat from Moro United put the club back on the bad
luck trail.
The Club’s coach Syler Said Mziray said his team would win this time after
making serious changes in the team’s attacking and defending technique.
The Simba camp has been reluctant to speak about the match, though some Club
officials boasted they would easily win this weekend’s match.
Simba are second placed with 18 points while Young Africans remained with their
third position despite losing to Moro United in Morogoro over the weekend.
Pagal seals third win in TIOT
Rally
By Express Team
Davinder Sahota Pagal scored third consecutive win after outmaneuvering 20 other
drivers in the TIOT 500 Rally held over the weekend.
Under the navigation of Munna Khan, Pagal cruised his strange Range Rover to
victory in one hour, 45 minutes and 47 seconds covering 350 km.
“The rally was good, challenging and tricky, but the blessing from my sponsors
General Tyre gave me all the advantage throughout the rally. I thank them for
their backing,” said Pagal at TIOT Yard where the rally marked its climax last
Sunday.
The last section from Kazimzumbwi to Mtamba was the worst section of the rally.
Ahmed Huwel, who had gear box problem, Pano Calavria, Nilesh Barmeda and the
event’s favourites, Saleh Balahabou and Maisam Fazal, failed to finish the rally
with only few kilometers left to the finishing line.
Morogoro-based driving duo, Shanto Nahdi and Mohamed Rassam, rocketed their
Subaru Impreza to the second position on their way to win 60 points in Group N
Class. Shanto took one hour, 47 minutes and 55 seconds.
Omar Bakhressa with his Subaru Impreza bagged 50 points after ending third
overall in one hour, 49 minutes and 25 seconds before letting Kirit Pandya take
his usual number four position with Subaru Legacy.
Pandya, who was navigated by Asit Thanki, took one hour, 52 minutes and 35
seconds, beating the rally’s “glamour boy” Saheer Ahmed by eight minutes.
Saheer Ahmed/Edgar Mariki, Dharam Pandya/Prabh Singh, who ended eleventh, and
Randeep Birdi, who took the twelfth position, were making their debut in the
rally and the event earned them their first points in the AAT seeding system.
“He showed all quality skills in his driving despite it being his first rally,”
said Athumani Hamisi, who navigated young Randeep.
The sixth position went Twalib Mohamed/Jamil Khan team of Nissan Pulsar, who
took 2:01:11, followed by Kinje Ngombale/Faiz Said, who clocked 2:05:17 and
Thalal Islam/Mohamed AllY team that ended eighth overall in 02:05:28.
Others who managed to finish the rally include Tanga-based duo, Abdul
Mohamed/Awadh Bafadhi, who were ninth, Murtaza Kara Anaconda/Jatish Varra
(10th).
Despite a good start, Mehboob Django/Nassir Khan finished at 13th Position,
ahead of Salim Haji whose fatal breakdown at the very last stage denied him his
obvious number one position.
Kelvin Taylor and his brother Isaac finished 15th in their Range Rover.
Twenty one cars took a flag off at TIOT Yard while 15 of them managed to reach
the finishing line at TIOT.

By Burton Brown
Mbwana Matumla brought back to Tanzania the lost glory of professional boxing
after beating Simon Ramon of South Africa on his way to clinching the open
Bantamweight title.
Matumla, who faded from limelight for two years, made a spectacular comeback
with a sweet victory in Pan African Junior category recognised by World Boxing
Association(WBA).
All the judges declared him the winner on 119-109, 116-111 and 115-113.

bout and did not allow his opponent to display his deadly hooks.

Copyright for national dress
design
By Express Correspondent
Plans are underway to register the winning designs at the National Dress
competition with copyright bodies to prevent piracy.
Rose Valentine, winner of the National Dress for men, told The Express this
week that the move was aimed at preventing her designs from falling into
pirates’ hands within and outside the country.
“I am now planning to consult my lawyer for the copyright ownership before I
make official launch of the dress later this year,” she said.
Also in her plans, Valentine said, she would consult the ministries concerned to
enable all material in her designs to be manufactured locally.
Valentine wants the design to come out officially December 9, when Tanzania
marks its 43rd Independence Anniversary.
Valentine said she would like to see Members of Parliament and top government
officials wearing the national dress that day.
Mtibwa Sugar climb to top
By Express Correspondent
The astonishing 5-0 victory Mtibwa Sugar recorded over Police Dodoma dominated
the news of last weekend’s matches, as it was the most distinctive record in the
ongoing Super Eight stage of Vodacom Premier League.
Last weekend’s results also made it clear to Mtibwa Sugar’s adversaries that
Manungu Stadium is the hardest venue to win three points.
The 5-0 victory was however the bitter news for the defending champions, Simba,
who had a barren draw with Mbeya Prisons in another exciting match held over the
weekend at the National Stadium.
Geoffrey Mhando, who scored the opener, Nico Nyagawa, who added the second goal,
and Abubakar Mkangwa, who scored the third goal, proved Mtibwa Sugar is
deadliest team on home ground.
The win was, however, bad news for cup holders Simba, who drew with Mbeya
Prisons at the National Stadium, allowing Mtibwa Sugar to travel the top of
league table with 18 points, with 13 goals from eight matches. Simba SC is
second while Young Africans are third with 10 points despite losing to Moro
United.

tournaments this year at the Club.

Loyola team Coach Methey Petrich must work harder to train his team since its
players did not show any determination to win the match.
Other top teams taking part in the Secondary School Basketball League are
