Savio thrash TM Rockets in Kili
RBA
By Burton Brown
Savio’s newly signed player Yusuf Abdul was a force to reckon with as his team
hammered TM Rockets 73-38 in one-sided Kili RBA encounter held over the weekend
at the National Indoor Stadium.
The young player converted nine times and starred in his team’s three-point
earning, making him a promising challenger for defending champions Savio.
Savio’s top players Michael Mwita, Jije Makani and Joseh Luzangi combined well
with the new faces such as Mathew Satta, David Mwakipunda and Kibabla Shomari to
outplay their opponents. Until breather, Savio were leading 28-8.
In that match, Savio’s top marksman Michael Mwita fired home 16 points also
recording six from three points conversion, while Luzangi managed 10 points.
Christopher Temba of TM Rockets scored only six points.

Magnets 61-49 while Magone recorded their first victory over Ilala Flats after
the former failed to turn up.
In the Kili RBA Ladies Championship, Cargo Ladies beat PTW 66 -39 with all
matches taking place last Sunday at the same venue.
Sponsored by TBL under Kilimanjaro Premium Lager, the league resumes this
weekend at the same venue.
Prisons dash Young Africans’
hopes
By Burton Brown
Prisons’ stunning 2-1 win over Mtibwa Sugar over the weekend, was a big blow to
Dar es Salaam Young Africans’ endeavour to win the third position in the Super
Eight Stage of the Vodacom Premier League.
With one match to go before the league climaxes this weekend, Young Africans and
their soccer fans had hoped for a different result following the winning touch
Mtibwa Sugar maintained through out the league and the less impressive
performance of Prisons at this stage of the league.
The win gave Prisons 19 points and a big chance to beat league underdogs AFC of
Arusha this weekend that will assure them of 22 points, which neither Young
Africans nor Moro United will attain if they win their weekend matches.
The Dar es Salaam giants play their last match against Police Dodoma at Jamhuri
Stadium praying AFC beat or draw with Prisons while they themselves fight for a
win.
Under this year’s system, two teams will represent Tanzania in the continent’s
major tournaments, African Club Championship and the Confederation of African
Football (CAF).
Mtibwa who are sure of the second place will not use that opportunity as they
are still serving a two-year ban imposed by CAF following their failure to
honour the aggregate match against Santos of South Africa early this year.
Simba Sports club retained their title after beating Police Dodoma while the
closest challengers Mtibwa Sugar had a disastrous weekend after losing to
Prisons.
The 2004 edition of Vodacom Premier League ends this weekend, when all teams
play their last matches at different venues.
Selous set for Camel Trophy-like
Rally
By Joyce Macha
For the first time in Tanzania’s history, the Automobile Association of Tanzania
is planning to stage a unique rough road rally scheduled for a flag off during
the middle of the rainy season in April 2005.
An official with the Rally Commission of Tanzania, Othman Hamisi told The
Express on Tuesday that the Camel Trophy-like rally would involve teams of four
drivers each, driving exclusively Four Wheel drive cars.
“It will be also a test for the type of 4wd cars assembled in Tanzania as
paraded by various companies based in Tanzania,” he said.
According to Othman, the rally will start in Morogoro and continue to Mloka
Rufiji in the Selous Game Park passing through Matombo, Mvuha, Duttumi and
Kisaki before reaching Mloka Village, the destination of the Saturday rally.
From Rufiji, the Sunday flag off will see the cars off to Dar es Salaam through
Kisanga, Maneromango, and Masaki, Kazimzumbwi, Pugu.
Explaining further, Othman said the rally is almost similar to the Rhino Charge
event in Kenya and mostly sides with car agencies like CMC for Land Rovers and
Range Rovers, Diamond Motors for Mitsubishi, DT Dobie for Nissan or Dunhill
Motors for Isuzu.
Meanwhile, Tanganyika Motor Sports Club (TMSC) is yet to decide the venue of the
8th edition of the National Rally Championship that the Club stages next month.
According to the Club’s officials, Dodoma, Tanga and Zanzibar are vying for a
chance to host the event and the Club is going through each applicant’s proposal
before the club picks the right venue.

Champion of Champions Boxing Tournament scheduled to take place from November 1
to 5 at Amana Social Hall, Dar es Salaam.
The Chairman of Tanzania Amateur Boxing Association (TABA), Narcis Tarimo, said
the tournament usually features boxers who excel in national and international

way of running the tournament,” he said.
TABA chairman said the event would award winners trophies, medals and cash
prizes.

Chaneta wakes up to poor umpiring
By Boogie Juma

(CHANETA) has organised a ten-day seminar for referees, scheduled to take place
from October 23 to November 3 in Dar es Salaam.
The Association’s Secretary General, Damian Chonya, said the seminar was planned
after countless mistakes were noted in umpiring during major competitions.
“We have informed all the umpires nationwide and sent them invitation letters to
attend the seminar. We expect most of them to attend,” he said.
According to Chonya, the participants eligible to attend the seminar were
national level umpires, who officiated first and second division league matches.
He said after the Dar es Salaam seminar, CHANETA would later hold another
seminar for international umpires from December 3 to 7 in Zanzibar.
Countries invited to participate in the international netball seminar are Kenya,
Uganda, Tanzania Mainland and hosts Zanzibar, added Chonya.
Kassim Chona axed from NSC
By Express Correspondent, Mwanza
The National Sports Council of Tanzania (NSC) has ordered Mwanza Regional Sports
Committee to announce Samuel Nyala, the winner of the post as a delegate to the
Football Association of Tanzania (FAT) General Assembly instead of veteran
Kassim Chona.
The Senior Officer in the National Sports Council, Juliana Matagi Yasoda said
the decision was reached by joint ruling of the disciplinary and appeal
committee of the sports body after going through various appeals.
According to Yasoda, Nyala appealled to NSC protesting against the election of
Mwanza Region Football Association (MRFA) held in September 11 in which Kassim
Chona emerged the winner of the post to represent the region in the soccer
body’s general meeting.
The NSC officer ordered the sport committee in Mwanza to announce Nyala the
winner of the post for Mwanza Region as well as informing Chona that he had lost
the post according to the explanation given.
