count back rule worked in favour of the former. Mwanyenza ended third overall,
forcing the Ugandan to settle for the fourth position.
Making his debut in Tanzania Open Golf Championship, teenage golfer Manraj
Bharya could have managed one of the top positions if it were not for the third
flop. The youngest player of the tournament, Bharya managed to fire 73 gross in
the first day before making it 76, 77 and the ugliest score of 83 strokes.
The player was fifth overall, tied with Godfrey Leverin of Morogoro on 299 gross

Mtibwa vows not to sell its players
By Express Correspondent
Mtibwa Sugar is yet to lose a player as the registration campaign ahead of the
2005 league continues to hit the headlines.
It was widely circulated that the best scorer of the Super Eight Stage of the
Premier League, Abubakar Mkangwa, and other key players like Kassim Issa, have
crossed over to Simba and Moro United, and will play for the teams in next
year’s league season.
Refuting the news, the coordinator of Mtibwa, Jamal Baysar, said until this
week, his club had not received any transfer letter requesting to relieve the
named players.
“We have received no official indication that there are teams interested to
recruit some of our players for next year’s league. We don’t understand how the
news of their transfers reached the media,” he said.
Baysar said Mkangwa was the team’s longest serving player. Keen and determined
to end his career in the club, makes him a potential player for assistant
coach’s job.
Mkangwa won soccer fans’ approval in the late nineties when he partnered with
Saidi Mhando to mark the teams’ flying start in the then first division league
before taking premiership title in later years.
Bayser said Mtibwa Sugar would be able to play in the East African Club
Championship early next year if Dar es Salaam decides to host it.
Still as Baysar explained, the players will start residential training ahead of
the regional championship and next year’s league season.

Addis cleared to host Challenge Cup
By Burton Brown
The Council of East and Central African Football Association (CECAFA) has now
cleared Ethiopia as the venue of the East and Central African Challenge Cup set
for a kick off in Addis Ababa next month.
The decision came after CECAFA officials went to Ethiopia this week to try and
find out if the Ethiopian football federation was ready to host the big
tournament.
Earlier, CECAFA proposed Ethiopia host the Challenge Cup after peace was
restored in the Ethiopia Football Federation (EFF).
“The Secretary General of CECAFA, Nicholas Musonye was satisfied with the
situation in the Ethiopian soccer body and okayed the country to win a hosting
ticket from Rwanda,” sources said.
The unrest in EFF put Ethiopia in trouble with the Federation of International
Football Associations (FIFA) who threatened to ban the country from
participating or staging international matches in the country.
The threat forced CECAFA to shift the Challenge Cup to Rwanda which CECAFA
thought had a better playing environment than Ethiopia.
Ethiopia requested CECAFA to return the tournament in Addis Ababa after
Ethiopian Billionaire Hussein Alamu proposed a sponsorship package of US$
500,000 for the winners of the tournament Defending champions Uganda Cranes who
beat Rwanda last year in Sudan. Other nations expected to take part in the
tournament this year include: Ethiopia, Sudan, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania,
Zanzibar, Somalia, Djibouti and Burundi.
