The ruling CCM party has nominated Jakaya Kikwete, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation as its presidential candidate for the October 30 elections. Do you think Kikwete is capable of being Tanzania’s next president?

YES. He is more than capable. I am saying this frankly although I am from the opposition camp. Regardless of the opinion polls done by the media, research organizations and other bodies, people have clearly indicated that Kikwete is acceptable and has a power of attracting people. I think the opposition should stop vying for presidency but utilize their resources in ensuring that they have many parliamentarian candidates. In my opinion, Kikwete is now as good as a president even before the elections.

YES.
He is capable of being the next president. According to my assessment, Kikwete is among the government leaders who so far has no scandals or ill-allegations levelled against him. He is a simple man, non-boastful person and a friend to all, rich and poor alike. He knows the party well since the period of TANU and he started from the roots. His devotion of working for the party since he completed university studies is a pure testimony of patriotism to the nation.

YES.
He can make a capable fourth president for Tanzania. To any person who is educated, it is not difficult to note that the speech he made at the CCM congress was enough to remind all Tanzanians that Kikwete is a potential leader. The qualities for the CCM nominee that were set by the party are all reflected in Kikwete. The fact that he is youthful and energetic will add value to his leadership. He would be able to talk to both the young and the old and be able to solve their problems.

YES. I believe that he will make a good president. With his youth league background and knowledge, Kikwete will definitely be active. Had he been a person of despair, he would have not continued serving the party because he had ups and downs – as a regional secretary then and a district secretary but he stayed with a firm stand. As a Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, he has had exposure and knows how governments are run.
