Should former Premier Edward Lowasa resign from representing his Monduli constituency, because he had to resign over accountability for massive corruption in the Richmond scandal?
YES: Resigning from the premiership was real admission that the report on Richmond scandals touched Edward Lowassa, and to indicate accountability he resigned from his post as premier, but this is not enough. The Richmond scandals have spoiled him politically too. To clean himself totally, he should resign as MP for Monduli and from the CCM’s NEC and CC.

YES: Accountability should now be the order of our life. He showed maturity by his resignation as PM. In order that Tanzania and the world accept his resignation, he should relinquish his hold as the representative of Monduli constituency too. This will help show that when one is given such a high position, he should really not fool around with responsibility.

NO: Edward Lowassa should not resign his MP position due to the fact that the position he holds does not require one to resign under pressure of scandals. Lowassa was elected by the Monduli people and he is representing his people in the Parliament. The Monduli people are the only ones who can force him to resign from representing them, and not otherwise.

NO: Edward Lowassa should not resign from his post as MP for Monduli, because if he does so, there will be a vacuum. Who will represent the people then? It should be noted that the people of Monduli elected Lowassa from his record in the constituency, which he has represented for years. As far as that is concerned, he has been doing his job very well The fact that some financial scandals in the government forced him to resign, does not mean that he is unfit for anything else. Please let us note that resignation from the post of premier is not the end of the world for Lowassa.
