Be aware of conmen in Dar
Dear Editor,
I wish to caution the general public about the presence of tricksters and fraudster people around Dar es Salaam Town.
These people come to shops as customers, they choose items in large quantities claiming they are businessman from upcountry, after bargaining they pay cash to the shopkeeper. Once the shopkeeper receives the agreed amount the fraudster changes his mind, claiming that he had made a mistake. He/she demands his/her money back, once he receivers his money back he within seconds changes his mind and pretends to give the same money back to the shopkeeper and claims he wants the same goods. But the fraudster has trickily changed the bundle of money so that in between the bundle of notes there are papers, and on top there are high denomination banknotes.
The shopkeeper thinking that it is the same money which he earlier counted does not count again.
Afterwards when the customer leaves and the shopkeeper counts again he realizes that he was conned by under payment.
I urge shopkeepers, when such types of customers come who are inconsistent by changing their minds, shopkeepers should be careful to recount the money again after it changes hands and not be conned.
Other fraudster tricks prevailing around Dar es Salaam city is some conmen approach a passer by, claiming that they are detectives, they are looking for stolen money from banks, whereupon they produce a fake list and command the passerby to give them all currency notes for comparison, once he gives them money for verification a taxi approaches, inside another conman appears and tells his fellow conman to board the taxi with the money and tells the passerby to wait at the same place until they come back here, the passerby has been conned.
My fellow residents of Dar es Salaam be careful.
Watchful Citizen.
