I wanted to thank The Express for highlighting the recent controversy about opinion polls, it is indeed strange that in our country which has been a multi-party denmocracy for a while now there is no reliable agency which can collate data for the voters to be informed. More than corruption, poverty and others, I think it is this which is the biggest national shame in Tanzania.
Why is it that in a peaceful country like Tanzania we cannot have proper election processes in place? The EU sends observers for the election. They should actually provide a platform for an unbiased opinion poll system in our country. Since we cannot trust ourselves, it is better to trust neutral third parties.
The problem is that once the elections are over, we will forget about the need for this for the next five years and nothing will be done about it. We need to remember and change for the better next time.
